The Ministry of Labour and Immigration's Directorate General for the Social Economy, Self-Employment and the Corporate Social Responsability is the Spanish government department with responsibility for matters concerning the social economy. This Department proposes legislation and other statutory instruments to foster the social economy in this country. It also publishes wide-ranging statistical information on registered co-operative societies and labour companies and on the working population registered with the Spanish Social Security system, including data on those among them who work in social economy enterprises.

The Junta de Andalucía is the institution that embodies and organises the self-government of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. This Regional Government comprises the Andalusian Parliament, the President of the Andalusian Junta and the Council of Government. The Directorate General for the Social Economy and Entrepreneurs of the Regional Government's Ministry of Innovation, Science and Enterprise is responsible for encouraging cooperativism and the social economy in Andalusia.

CEPES Andalucía
The Confederación de Entidades para la Economía Social de Andalucía or Confederation of Organisations for the Social Economy in Andalusia (CEPESAndalucía) is an inter-sector business Organisation set up in 1993 that brings together the organisations (federations, associations, foundations) of Social Economy enterprises and self-employed entrepreneurs in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. The main function of CEPES-Andalucía is to defend the interests of this group of businesses and act as the social agent that represents it, as well as to further these business models as a means to create employment and achieve a more just society and greater distribution of wealth.
Universidad de Jaén
On 1 July 1993 the Parliament of Andalusia passed Act 5/1993, bringing the University of Jaen into formal existence. This University traces its roots back to the Modern Age and the University of Baeza. Jaen University has strong ties with both training (expert and specialist courses, MSc and PhD degrees) and research in the Social Economy, specifically on the subject of cooperatives. Researchers from the University of Jaen have achieved numerous accolades and prizes for their research in the field of the social economy.

The foundation was set up formally in 2004 in Valencia (Spain) on the initiative of the Mutualidad General de Previsión del Hogar “Divina Pastora” mutual provident society. Its aims include social assistance and social inclusion, including attending to the problems of families, the elderly and children, training and assisting those at risk of exclusion, particularly the physically and mentally disabled, and fostering the social economy.

Unicaja is a credit entity with a social character. It was set up in 1991 through the merger of the saving banks of Ronda, Cádiz, Almería, Málaga and Antequera. Unicaja's network currently consists of 908 branches spread across 16 Spanish provinces, the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, and London. Unicaja's Social Work (Obra Social) -the largest among private institutions in Andalusia- had a 58.1 million Euro budget in 2007.
